Why were you excited to play Yi?
Yi isn’t obscured by societal norms and expectations. She is the type of character I longed to see on screen growing up, and I’m so proud to be able to help bring her to life.
How do you relate to your character, Yi? Are you similar to her in any way?
Yi is me! I was that teenage girl living in Shanghai with her grandmother. So much of her journey mirrors my own: her independent nature, how she learns to deal with grief, her rejection of societal norms, etc. Many people, young and old alike, will be able to relate to her story.
