Sure-Fit Shoes
Courtesy of Nike
The next time you go shopping for sneakers, don’t forget your smartphone! A new app by Nike called Nike Fit is designed to help you get perfectly sized shoes on the first try. The app scans your foot to measure it and determine its shape. It then compares your foot to the measurements and materials of Nike shoes to find which size will fit best. Shoes with flexible mesh materials might be best in a smaller size, while rigid basketball shoes might need to be a bit larger. Some of the app’s earliest users have been surprised to learn that they’ve been wearing the wrong size for years!
A Nike Fit user’s perfect fit across five different shoes was 9.5, 10, 10, 10.5, and 9. What was the mean of the shoe sizes, rounded to the nearest size? Record your work and answer on our Numbers in the News answer sheet.
