Differentiating With Scholastic MATH

Use Scholastic MATH’s many differentiation tools to customize instruction for a variety of learners. These include knowledge-building videos with closed-captioning, leveled texts, and much more. Whether they’re striving or thriving, your students will get the support they need with these powerful resources.

Videos

Instantly capture students’ attention with our engaging, ad-free videos that include the option for closed-captioning. There are two types:

- Article-related videos make great prereading activities for building essential background knowledge on topics covered in the magazine.

- Instructional math videos review important skills and bring math concepts to life using real-world examples.

Leveled Texts

Every feature article in Scholastic MATH is available at two reading levels. Select the article you want to read. If the article has multiple reading levels, the options will appear in the toolbar on the left. Choose the preferred level. The Text-to-Speech tool can also be used to read either level aloud. Text-to-Speech

Scholastic MATH offers an audio Text-to-Speech tool to assist students in their reading. When a user activates Text-to-Speech, an automated voice reads the article aloud. Each word is highlighted as it is read, and students can control the speed of the reading. To learn more, click here.

Skills Sheets

Reinforce skills with our standards-aligned skills sheets, which provide a variety of support for different learners. The PDFs are easy to print or assign through Google Classroom or other learning management systems. For more information about skills sheets and where to find them, click here.

Differentiated Lesson Plans

Each lesson plan in the Scholastic MATH Digital Resource Guide includes sections that you can pick and choose from to fit the needs of your learners. Many of the sections feature differentiation ideas, lesson extensions, common misconceptions, cross-curricular connections, and hands-on learning activities. These sections are designed for helping students struggling with certain skills or providing higher-level concepts for advanced learners.

Templates

Help students build both their conceptual understanding of math and their reading skills with our generic and adaptable templates. These math and literacy skills sheets include blank circle graphs, fraction models, graphic organizers, and more to support your teaching efforts and save time. To access these skills sheets, click “Templates” from the far right of the top menu bar on any Scholastic MATH page.
