The country of Wakanda returns to the big screen on November 11. This fictional African nation is home to the superhero the Black Panther. It’s also a technologically advanced country where cutting-edge science is used to protect and improve the lives of its people.
Wakanda is an example of Afrofuturism, or a depiction of a possible future based on Black cultures and experiences. Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther and Wakanda Forever, was inspired by the African kingdom of Lesotho when designing Wakanda.
